Bray Finishes Seventh At Jones Cup

Sea Island, Ga. - North Carolina junior Dustin Bray, last year's ACC champion and a semifinalist at the 2002 U.S. Amateur, finished in seventh place at the 2003 Jones Cup which was played Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at the Ocean Forest Golf Club. Bray fired rounds of 72-77-69 for a two-over-par 218 total. Gregg Jones, a junior at Clemson, won the 54-hole event with a five-under 211 total after rounds of 69-72-70. James Vargas, a freshman at Florida, finished two strokes behind Jones with a 213 total.
ray, ranked seventh in the Golfweek/Titleist Amateur Rankings, highlighted the 72-man field which included 20 of the nation's top 50 amateur golfers. This was the second Jones Cup event. The inaugural Jones Cup was played in 2001 and also took place at Ocean Forest Golf Club. The event was not held last year due to budget cuts caused mostly from a poor economy driven by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
