Carolina Faces Virginia In ACC Tournament Semifinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The North Carolina men's lacrosse team has earned the No. 3 seed in the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship and will play No. 2 seed Virginia Friday night in the semifinals at Klockner Stadium on the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville, Va.
The Tar Heels (5-5) will meet the Cavaliers (7-2) will play in the second semifinal game on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. No. 1 seed Maryland will play No. 4 seed Duke in the first semifinal match at 6 p.m.
The championship game will be played Sunday at 3 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports Net, Sunshine Network and Comcast Sports Net.
Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia all tied for first place in the ACC with 2-1 records. Duke finished fourth with an 0-3 conference record. In a blind draw for the top three seeds, Maryland was picked first followed by Virginia and North Carolina.
After starting the season 5-2, Carolina has lost three in a row. UNC's five losses this season have come by a combined total of nine goals, all against nationally-ranked teams.
The Tar Heels will not only be seeking an end to their present losing streak but also will be after Carolina's first ACC Tournament win since 1996.
