Chapel Hill, N.C. - Carolina golfer Dustin Bray, a rising senior this fall, is one of eight players selected to represent the United States at this year's Palmer Cup, a prestigious Ryder Cup-style event with competition between the top collegiate men's players in the United States and Europe. This year's matches are sponsored by Monster Worldwide, Inc. and will be played Thursday and Friday at the distinguished Cassique Golf Club at Kiawah Island, S.C.
Joining Bray, a first-team PING All-America and three-time All-ACC performer, on the United States team are Hunter Mahan (2003 Ben Hogan Award winner) of Oklahoma State, Ryan Moore (U.S. Public Links Champion) of UNLV, Bill Haas (two-time PING All-America) of Wake Forest, Jason Hartwick of Texas, Adam Rubinson of TCU, Brandt Snedeker of Vanderbilt and Peter Tomasulo of California.
The European team consists of Alejandro Canizares (Arizona State) and Gonzalo Castano of Spain, Sweden's Par Nilsson (Oklahoma State) and Wilhelm Schauman (Minnesota) and David Inglis (Tulsa), David Price, David Skinns (Tennessee) and Oliver Wilson (Augusta State) of the United Kingdom.
Competition is expected to be fierce this year as all of Europe will be competing against the U.S. In previous years, the competition featured players from Great Britain and Ireland versus the U.S., but has now expanded -- much like the Ryder Cup -- to include all of Europe. The U.S. team leads the series, 4-1-1, and has won all three matches played in the United States.
The Palmer Cup will be televised by The Golf Channel.
