UNC Men's Golf Team In 11th Place At The Ridges

Jonesborough, Tenn. - The University of North Carolina finished its first two rounds of play today, posting scores of 304 and 288 for a total 16-over-par 592 in the Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges tournament.
The Tar Heels are currently in 11th place. However, five teams did not finish their second rounds as play was halted at 8 p.m.
Florida shot a two-over 290 and then an eight-under 280 for a total six-under 570 and possession of first place. TCU is at even par but did not finish its second round. Three schools are tied for third place at a three-over 579: Clemson, Southern California and Wake Forest. Wake Forest has also yet to finish.
In the individual race, Wake Forest's Bill Haas sits in first place at nine-under, but is only through 15 holes in his second round. Tennessee's John Scott Rattan, who has not finished either, is in second place at six-under.
Florida's Camilo Villegas and James Vargas are in third and fourth places respectively at five and four-under. Vargas shot a hole-in-one on the 210-yard third hole in the second round. He and Villegas shot back-to-back eagle 2's in the first round on the par-four first hole.
Carolina's finishes include: freshman Will Dottley shot a 74 and 72 for a total two-over and tie for 27th; Sophomore Kevin Silva shot a 73 and 76 for a total five-over and tie for 44th; senior Dustin Bray shot a 77 and 73 for a total six-over and tie for 51st; sophomore Ted Smith shot an 80 and one-under 71 for a total seven-over and tie for 58th; sophomore Fernando Figueroa shot an 81 and even par for a total nine-over and tie for 67th.
The Bank of Tennessee tournament is being played at The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. The course is a 7147-yard par 72. The second round will resume Sunday morning at 8 a.m., to be followed by the third and final round.
