Carolina Finishes Ninth At The Intercollegiate

Cary, N.C. - North Carolina's men's golf team finished in ninth place at The Courtyard By Marriott Intercollegiate. The Tar Heels fired a one-under-par 287 in the final round for an 11-over 875 total. Duke topped the field of 15 teams with a 19-under 845 total. Kansas, the second-round leader, finished 15 strokes back in second place at 860. Minnesota finished third at 862 while NC State was fourth at 867, SMU was fifth at 870 and Wake Forest was sixth at 871.
ill Haas of Wake Forest grabbed the individual title after firing a 15-under 201 total with rounds of 64-69-68. Aron Price of Georgia Southern finished seven shots back in second place at 208 while a trio of players tied for third place * Virginia Tech's Ryan Stinnett, Duke's Alex Wilson and Kansas' Kevin Ward.
Sophomore Kevin Silva led the way for the Tar Heels after firing three sub-par rounds (71-71-70) for a four-under 212 total and a tie for seventh place. Ted Smith fired a two-under 70 in the final round for a 219 total and tied for 25th place. Dustin Bray and Martin Ureta both tallied 226 totals and tied for 60th place while Matt Crenshaw carded a 228 total and tied for 68th place. Fernando Figueroa played as an individual and tied for 71st place with a 229 total.
The 54-hole event was played at MacGregor Downs Country Club which features a par 72, 6,867-yard layout. Carolina's next action comes next week when they travel to New London, N.C., to play in the ACC Championship.
