The Carolina Men's Golf Team In Seventh Place At CordeValle Collegiate

SAN MARTIN, CALIF. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team fired a four-under-par 284 in the second round for a 583 total and stands in seventh place going into the final round of the CordeValle Collegiate. Carolina's Reed Darsie, from Chapel Hill, fired a three-under 69 in the second round after an even par 72 in the first round for a 141 total and is tied for fifth place. Teammate Ted Smith, a senior from Westlake, Ohio, carded a four-under 68 in the second round afrter a 74 in the first round for a 142 total and is tied for 10th place individually.
Host UCLA leads the field of 16 teams with a seven-under 565 total. Northwestern is three strokes back in second place with a 568 total while Arkansas is third at 575, Texas and California are tied for fourth at 579 and Augusta Sate is in sixth place with a 581 total.
Daniel Im of UCLA leads all individuals with a six-under 138 total after firing rounds of 71-67. Michael Wilson of California is one stoke off the pace at five-under 139 after carding rounds of 69-70. Augusta State's Major Manning and Northwestern's Kyle Moore are tied for third place with 140 totals while four others are tied with Carolina's Darsie in fifth place at 141 - Arkansas' Matt Bortis, Virginia's Andrea Signor and Northwestern's Dillon Dougherty and David Merkow.
Carolina junior Martin Ureta, from Santiago, Chile, carded a 149 total after rounds of 75-74 and is tied for 40th place. Robert Riesen, a freshman from Pinehurst, stands at 154 after posting rounds of 78-76 and is tied for 72nd place while Barden Berry, a sophomore from Kinston, carded a 160 total with rounds of 87-73 and is tied for 77th place.
The find round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday at CordeValle, a par 72, 7,119-yard layout.
