CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - While they would most certainly rather be playing with their teammates at the College World Series in Omaha, 18 members of the University of North Carolina baseball team have already scattered to various wooden bat summer leagues with the hopes of improving their games for the 2006 season in Chapel Hill.
Nine Tar Heels are playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League, including last year's No. 1 prospect Andrew Miller, who has rejoined the Chatham A's. Fellow pitchers Matt Danford and Robert Woodard are teammates of Miller's. A Tar Heel trio can also be found in Wareham, where Daniel Bard, Andy Gale and Josh Horton are all playing.
Six players are in the Coastal Plain League, while two more are in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League and Reid Fronk is playing in the Northwoods League in Minnesota.
