Tar Heels Have Successful Outing At UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS, NEV. - The University of North Carolina swimming teams concluded their annual winter training trip by competing in the UNLV Invitational Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev. An unscored invitational, the Tar Heels faced competition from host UNLV, Notre Dame and Wyoming.
Freshamn Nicole O'Donnell won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:00.14 while junior Erin Cutrell clocked third in a season best time of 10:13.28. In the 200-yard individual medley Carolina swimmers finished 1-2 in the event with junior Tristan Davidson taking top honors and senior Chad Ames finishing second.
Senior Chad Ames won the 200-yard butterfly for the Tar Heels in a time of 1:51.78. Sophomore Keith Laabs became UNC's third individual event winner when he touched first in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:52.68.
Senior Lizzy Bruce was the second winner on the men's side with a time of 2:17.38 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
North Carolina's 400-yard freestyle relay on the women's side also won its event in 3:31.29. The relay included Lindsey Marck, Kelsey Morrissy, Meagan Eicklman and Amanda Smith.
Other UNC swimmers who had season best times in the meet included sophomore Philip Owen in the 1000-yard freestyle at 9:32.88, sophomore Brandon Suddreth in the 200-yard freesatyle at 1:43.70, senior Patrick Woodruff in the 200-yard invdividual medley in 1:57.73, freshman Sarah Scott in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.53, junior Jared Kleber in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:59.07, sophomore Mark Mohr in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:08.04, freshman Kimmy Davis in the 100-yard freestyle at 53.73,
