
Tar Heels Rebound With 12-6 Win Over Ohio State

University Park, Pa. -- The University of North Carolina got four goals from freshman Megan Bosica and two goals and two assists from senior Melissa McCarthy as the No. 2-ranked Tar Heels wore down unranked Ohio State, 12-6, in collegiate women's lacrosse action on Sunday. The game was part of the annual Atlantic Coast Conference/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge, hosted by Penn State University.
In addition to Bosica and McCarthy's offensive output, the Tar Heels got a goal and two assists from Christina Juras, two goals from Jess Allen, a goal and an assist from Chrissy Rude and single goals from Kristen Taylor and Kristen Carr.
Kristen Hordy started and played the first 39:35 in goal for Carolina, allowing five goals and recording two saves. Logan Ripley finished the contest in the cage, allowing one goal and making two saves in 20:25 of action.
Ohio State was led by Jessica Patane's three goals. Carolina out-shot Ohio State by a 37-17 margin, won 21 ground balls to Ohio State's 11 and controlled 12 of 19 draws in the game.
UNC jumped out to a 3-1 lead by the 19:13 mark of the first half behind goals from Bosica, McCarthy and Taylor. The Buckeyes scored twice in a span of 1:10 to tie things at 3-3 before McCarthy scored an unassisted goal and dished to Juras for another score to make the score 5-3 UNC at the break.
Bosica scored the the first goal of the second half at the 28:07 mark to make it 6-3 before Patane and Amanda Shimp scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 6-5. Carolina's depth took over and wore down Ohio State, however, as UNC ripped off a 6-0 run in under five minutes to make the score 12-5 and put things out of reach. Allen scored twice during the 6-0 run.
With the victory, the Tar Heels improved to 11-2 this season and bounced back from Friday night's overtime loss to Penn State. Carolina will return to action on Friday with a road game at Virginia Tech. UNC will then host Longwood on Sunday April 15 at Fetzer Field.
