BLACKSBURG, Va. --- North Carolina (14-1, 1-0 ACC) begins the road portion of its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule Thursday when the Tar Heels visit Virginia Tech's Cassell Coliseum at 7 p.m. Carolina is coming off a 99-78 win over Georgia Tech on Jan. 5. Virginia Tech enters Thursday's matchup with a record of 12-4 (0-2 in the ACC) after a Sunday loss at Florida State. UNC is ranked No. 3 in both the AP poll and the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll after spending two weeks at No. 4. Virginia Tech is unranked.

VIRGINIA TECH SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 10-2 all-time against Virginia Tech, including a 2-1 mark in Blacksburg.
The Tar Heels took the only regular season meeting in 2007, winning 102-68 in Chapel Hill. Carolina also posted a 90-60 win over the Hokies in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.
Thursday's game marks just the second trip to Virginia Tech for UNC since the Hokies joined the ACC. Carolina won at Cassell Coliseum, 84-75, in 2006.
The Tar Heels have won seven straight games in the series. Virginia Tech's last win in the series came in Roanoke, Va., on Dec. 1, 1984, a 74-73 decision.
NOTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech is 12-4 on the season and 0-2 in league play after falling at Florida State, 67-63, on Sunday.
The Hokies are led in scoring by junior guard Brittany Cook. The Narrows, Va., product averages 18.1 points per game, good for third in the ACC.
Sophomore forward Utahya Drye leads a balanced rebounding effort with 6.6 boards per game. Drye is a native of Durham, N.C.
Virginia Tech is led by fourth-year head coach Beth Dunkenberger. An all-conference player at Randolph-Macon in Ashland, Va., Dunkenberger has a career head coaching record of 134-91 that includes five seasons as the head coach at Western Carolina.
