TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Brie Felnagle proved once again that she is one of the top female distance runners in the country Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. as she took the NCAA Pre-National meet traversing the 6K course in 20:02.4 to take the individual title in the blue race. Lauren Holesh turned in another solid race as she finished 15th overall in a time of 20:36.0 but the duo was not enough to get Carolina into the top 10. Carolina finished 20th overall in the blue race and will look to improve on their times in two weeks at the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill on Nov. 1.
Felnagle and Holesh helped Carolina finish in the top half of the blue race with their top 15 finishes as the Tar Heels finished 20th out of 41. Freshman Ashley Verplank finished third for Carolina with a 122 overall finish as she crossed the line in 22:07.1 a few seconds ahead of senior Morgan Stengel who finished 145th with a 6K time of 22:18.8. Closing out the scoring for Carolina was Courtlin LaReau who finished with a time of 23:16.4 as she claimed 235th place.
The win is Felnagle's second in as many races this year and she will look to make it three straight in two weeks when Carolina hosts the ACC Championships on Nov. 1.
