ATLANTA --- North Carolina senior forward Erlana Larkins was one of 10 players named to the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Team, announced by the WBCA and State Farm at a press conference in Tampa Saturday. Larkins, who was also recently named to the 10-player USBWA All-America squad, becomes the seventh player in program history to be honored on this team, formerly known as the Kodak All-America Team.
Larkins, who has also earned second-team All-America honors from the AP and ESPN.com, led UNC to a 33-3 record, a perfect run through the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and a fourth-straight ACC Tournament title. The Riviera Beach, Fla., product averaged 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest this season in leading Carolina to the Elite Eight. Previous Tar Heels honored by the WBCA are Tresa Brown (1984), Pam Leake (1986), Tonya Sampson (1994), Charlotte Smith (1995), Tracy Reid (1997, 1998) and Ivory Latta (2006, 2007).
Fellow senior LaToya Pringle was named to the State Farm Honorable Mention All-America list. Pringle, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 14.6 points and 7.2 rebounds as a senior. Her 95 blocks on the year gave her 336 for her career, a new school record and the second-highest career total in ACC history. Pringle was a first-team All-ACC selection and was named to the ACC and New Orleans Region All-Tournament teams.
