Head Coach Butch Davis is about to step to the podium to announce his 2009 signing class. Be sure to tune into the press conference by clicking on the link above. Coach Davis will run down all the recruits that he and his coaching staff signed today.
Ray-Ray!

Ray-Ray Davis a wide receiver from Monroe, N.C. has pledged his services to North Carolina as he brings the wide receiver class to five surpassing the number of departees. Davis is considered one of the top 25 prospects in the state of North Carolina along with several of the 2009 Tar Heel recruits.
Best high school players you've ever seen....

There has been a survey going around the Kenan Football Center today asking all the coaches who the best high school football player they have ever seen play. There is quite a diverse list from professional football to professional basketball players. Tommy Thigpen went with a Carolina guy by picking Ronald Curry and his ridiculous high school numbers.

Prizell Brown a 6-4, 260 tight end out of Brenham, Texas becomes the 26th recruit for the Tar Heels. Brown played the last two years at Blinn College in Texas.

Another NFL Connection

The second signee with NFL connections has pledged his services to Carolina as punter C.J. Feagles sent in his letter of intent. C.J.'s father is 21-year NFL veteran punter Jeff Feagles. The Ridgewood, N.J., native actually sent his national letter of intent in at 7 a.m..... But of course with his father in the Pro Bowl that would be Hawaii time.

Final hour of Signing Day Live! about to get under way. With 25 recruits in at the moment the 2009 signing class is definitely taking shape. According to Scout.com the Tar Heels currently have the third-ranked recruiting class in the country and Rivals.com has Carolina at No. 7.
Florida defensive back pair sign

The Armwood High School (Seffner, Fla.) duo of Angelo Hadley and Mywan Jackson. Hadley and Jackson helped lead the defensive secondary at Armwood and will look to do the same together in Chapel Hill for years to come. Both are labeled as 3-star recruits and will provide quite a bit of athleticism to the Tar Heel defensive backfield.
4-Star Corner Signs

Terry Shankle (Norwood, N.C.) a 6-0 corner is the most recent commitment for the Tar Heels who are up to 23 recruits for the 2009 class. Shankle snatched a remarkable 15 interceptions as a junior while at South Stanly High School. Another defensive back and running back picks Carolina

Gene Robinson a 5-11 safety out of Memphis has sent in his official papers and adds depth to the defensive backfield right away after the loss of Trimane Goddard to graduation. Also, joining the Tar Heels will be playmaker Jerrell Rhodes from just down the road in Durham.
Two-Sport star picks Carolina

Donovan Tate from Cartersville, Ga. has become the latest Tar Heel. Tate in addition to being a 4-star recruit in football as a safety is also ranked as one of the top high school baseball players in the nation.

HUGE offensive lineman commits

A 6-7, 330 pound offensive lineman out of Windsor, N.C., Travis Bond has become the latest Tar Heel. With the addition of Bond, the Tar Heels have inked four top of the line offensive linemen along with David Collins, Brennan Williams and Johnnie Farms.
Boyd bumps the class to 18

Jheranie Boyd a 4-star wide receiver from Gastonia, N.C. has sent in his letter of intent and has become the 18th recruit of the 2009 class. Boyd is ranked as the seventh-best wide receiver in the nation according to Scout.com. The 6-3, 185 pounder is a strong receiver who could make an impact right away.

With a slight lull in the action here as we're waiting for the next recruits to roll in with their official papers the countdown to Signing Day Live! is 30 minutes. News on recent Tar Heels came out this week as the NFL announced the prospects headed to the combine in a few weeks. Five Tar Heels have earned the right to head to Indianapolis for the annual combine. Brooks Foster, Hakeem Nicks, Richard Quinn, Garrett Reynolds and Brandon Tate all earned invitations this week. N&O Running Signing Day Surprises

In the preps section of the Raleigh News & Observer you can find signing day surprises of the past. A pair of Tar Heels have been mentioned in the first couple of posts with Greg Little's decision to become a Tar Heel in 2007 and Mark Maye back in 1984. Maye received a phone call in 1984 from NFL quarterback Dan Fouts who persuaded him to head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide before Maye became a Tar Heel. Pair of wideouts become Tar Heels

With the loss of four wide receivers from the 2008 team T.J. Yates has to throw the ball to somebody. The duo of Erik Highsmith (Vanceboro, N.C.) and Joshua McKie (Mauldin, S.C.) have sent in their official papers and will look to make contributions next year. Speaking of T.J. Yates, the rising junior quarterback was spotted out on the field this morning throwing with a trio of wide receivers trying to get his timing down early before spring ball starts up in a few weeks.
Defense receives two more stars

Local defensive lineman Jared McAdoo from Chapel Hill and Matthews' Hawatha Bell a linebacker from Butler high school have become the newest Tar Heels. McAdoo exploded at the North Carolina-South Carolina shrine game, where Bell a 4-star top 15 linebacker in the country also competed this past fall.
Top DE in the country becomes a Tar Heel

Defensive end Donte Moss (Jacksonville, N.C.) has sent in his official paperwork and is officially now a Tar Heel. Moss is a 5-star recruit and is ranked as the top player in the state of North Carolina. Moss is the 13th recruit to sign with Carolina this season and the seventh from North Carolina, which could be a reoccurring theme with this class.
Campbell and Farms become the newest Tar Heels

Curtis Campbell (Chesapeake, Va.) and Johnnie Farms (Perry, Ga.) have sent in their paperwork to the football center. With the signing of Farms, coach Pittman quickly busted into some Rick James in celebration. The phone was quickly passed from coach to coach to talk to Farms and his mother as the buzz has quickly picked up around here.
That's a bunch of Mularkey

Linebacker Shane Mularkey (Norcross, Ga.) has become the newest Tar Heel. Mularkey's name should sound familiar to football fans as his father is Mike Mularkey, the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Mularkey has suffered through injuries the past two seasons but the News & Observer has listed him as Carolina's sleeper pick for the 2009 class.
Wheels on the bus go round and round

We have found ourselves in a bit of a dead period as future signees make their way to school to fax in their letters of intent. Luckily for us here in the Kenan Football Center we have offensive line coach Sam Pittman and wide receivers coach Charlie Williams holding court providing some early comedic relief.

Quarterback Bryn Renner kind of came out of nowhere this summer and fall and shot up the recruiting boards. Renner is ranked as the eighth-best quarterback prospect in the country according to Scout.com. Be sure to check out his video to see why he became a hot name in the 2009 class.

The lock down law firm of Hunter and Bunn push the number in up to nine. Josh Hunter hails from Charlotte and is a 6-2, 175 cornerback, while D.J. Bunn is a 5-11, 185 corner from Smithfield, N.C.
Dixon and Williams join the party

Linebacker Justin Dixon (Smithfield, N.C.) rated as the fourth-highest outside linebacker in the country by Scout.com has made his commitment to North Carolina official along with offensive tackle Brennan Williams (West Roxbury, Mass.). Williams is a massive (6-6, 273) athletic offensive tackle who ranks as the ninth-highest tackle in the country.

Quarterback Bryn Renner (Springfield, Va.) was the first to send his letter of intent in this morning but not far behind were offensive lineman David Collins (Kernersville, N.C.) and running back/safety Hunter Furr (Winston-Salem, N.C.).
The First Two Are In...

The first two members of the 2009 recruiting class have been announced, but they have been in Chapel Hill for the past month. Wide Receiver Joshua Adams and linebacker Kevin Reddick entered school for the new semester in January and will be able to participate in spring ball.
