Former Golfers Shine In Pro Events

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three former Tar Heel golfers had stellar performances this weekend in various professional tournaments - Mark Wilson and Davis Love III at the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour and Tom Scherrer at the Melwood Prince George's County Open on the Nationwide Tour.
Wilson, the co-leader going into the final round, tied for third place at the Memorial Tournament played at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. He fired an eight-under-par 280 total after rounds of 68-70-69-73. Love finished two shots back in a tie for fifth place after rounds of 72-68-69-73 for a six-under 282 total. Wilson is 31st in the lastest FEDEX Cup standings while Love is 32nd. Wilson played on the 1994-97 Tar Heel golf teams while Love played 1983-85.
Meanwhile, Scherrer was making his mark on the Nationwide Tour, tying for fifth place at the Melwood Prince George's County Open played at The County Club of Woodmore in Mitchellville, Md. Scherrer, who played on the 1990-92 Tar Heel golf teams, fired an 11-under 277 total after rounds of 68-68-71-72. Also, Martin Ureta, who played for Carolina 2004-07, tied for 60th place at even par 288 with rounds of 69-72-72-75. Dustin Bray (2001-04) and Patrick Moore (1989-92) also played in the Nationwide Tour event, but missed the 36-hole cut.
