
Ivy, Parros Advance To Finals, Sossah In Fifth At NCAAs

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. - Vanneisha Ivy ran her second fastest time ever in the 60-meter hurdles prelim to advance into the final on Friday, March 12th, at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayettevilla, Ark. She is one of three Tar Heels who earned bids to compete at the national championships. Clayton Parros advanced to the finals in the men's 400 and Mateo Sossah completed four of seven events in the heptathlon on Friday as well.
Ivy won her heat in 8.14 to qualify for the final in the 60 hurdles. The women's 60 hurdles final will take place at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Parros edged into the 400 final by earning one of the eight fastest times. He ran in 46.69. The 400 final will take place after the women's 60-hurdles final on Saturday.
Sossah is currently in fifth place after four events with 3,170 points. There are a mere 30 points separating second through fifth places. His marks include 7.45 in the 60, 23-2 1/2 in long jump, 46-2 in shot put and 6-9 3/4 in the high jump. Sossah's high jump height was second highest among the field and an inch shy of his personal best. The 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 will finish up the multis on Saturday.
The NCAA will officially announce All-America honors on Sunday, but the top-eight finishers do score points for their schools in addition to earning the coveted honor. TarHeelBlue.com will have final results for Ivy, Parros and Sossah on Saturday evening.
