
Sossah Runner-Up In Heptathlon At NCAAs

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - North Carolina senior Mateo Sossah earned a personal best, shattered the school record he set at the ACC Indoor Championships and tied the French national record for athletes 23 and under with his second-place finish of 5,886 at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships which concluded Saturday. Sossah's finish scored eight points for the Carolina men's team and helped the men tie for 20th overall.
Sossah had three events to complete in the heptathlon, after finishing the first four on Friday. He ran the 60 hurdles in 8.31, reached 15-9 in the pole vault and ran a personal best 2:32.22 in the 1000. This is Sossah's second runner-up finish at a NCAA national championship, his first coming in the 2009 outdoor season for the decathlon.
Clayton Parros took home seventh place for the 400-meter final. He ran a best 46.22 to earn two points for the Tar Heel men and take home his first national honors.
Vanneisha Ivy finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles for her third top-eight national finish in her collegiate career. She ran in 8.75.
Official announcement of All-America honors will be released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association in conjunction with the NCAA on Sunday afternoon. Those student-athletes in scoring position and in the top eight are eligible for the honor.
