Seven UNC Players Tapped For All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Seven members of the 2010 University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team, including 2010 Co-National Defenseman of the Year Ryan Flanagan, were named Tuesday to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team as announced by Commissioner John Swofford.
Duke led the Academic Team in terms of number of selections with Carolina second with six choices followed by Maryland with five and Virginia with two. Seven players, including Flanagan, were named this year to both the All-Conference Team and the All-Academic Team.
Flanagan, a junior business administration major from West Islip, N.Y., was named to the team for the third straight year.
Other Tar Heel on the squad were junior midfielder Chris Hunt of Arnold, Md., a business administration major; senior defenseman Sean Jackson of Fairfax, Va., a journalism and mass communication major; senior defenseman Michael Jarvis of Richmond, Va., a business administration major; sophomore midfielder Tyler Morton of Denver, Colo., a business administration major; sophomore midfielder Jeff Muscatello of Wells, Maine, a business administration major; and sophomore defenseman Mark Staines of Gambrills, Md., a journalism and mass communication major.
Hunt, Jarvis, Morton and Staines all made the team for a second time in their careers.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
