GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina senior center Chay Shegog and Georgia Tech senior center Sasha Goodlett share this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 25, the league office announced Monday. Duke freshman center Elizabeth Williams was also recognized for her exceptional performance, earning her third Rookie of the Week honor this season.
Shegog became the 33rd player in North Carolina women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points with a 19-point effort in the win over East Carolina on Dec. 20. The senior from Stafford, Va., helped the Tar Heels bounce back from their second loss of the year, playing 38 minutes in a game in which UNC was only able to dress eight healthy players. In addition, Shegog grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a career-high seven Lady Pirate shots to push Carolina to 8-2 on the season.
Carolina is back in action on Thursday when the Tar Heels host Savannah State at 2 p.m.
