Tar Heels Head to the Final Round in 13th Place

AWENDAW, S.C.- The North Carolina men's golf team bounced back from day one to card a four-over 288 in the second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, tying for the fourth-lowest score of the day. Henry Zaytoun III paced the Tar Heels, firing a two-under 69. The Tar Heels ended the day in 13th place.
Zaytoun, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., finished strong, birdying holes 15 and 17 en route to a team-low 69, and in a tie for 19th place. Freshman Sean Jacklin, from Bradenton, Fla, followed up an even-par first round with a one-over 72 in the second, tying for 35th. Sophomore Michael McGowan, from Southern Pines, N.C., carded a two-over 73 in the second round to finish tied for 56th place. Fellow sophomore, Clark Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., carded a three-over 74 in the second round and senior Kevin O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., shot an eight-over 79 on day two. Both players enter the final round tied for 70th.
Augusta State sits atop the leaderboard after posting a two-under 282 in the second round, bringing their team total to five-under 563. LSU is just two strokes back, firing an even-par 284 en route to a three-under 565 total. Wake Forest, Auburn and Texas A&M round out the top five, each carding four-over 288 team totals in round two.
Mississippi's Jonathan Randolph leads the individual competition with a five-under 137 total after two rounds. Lee Bedford of Wake Forest and Patrick Reed of Augusta State, sit one stroke back at four-under par 138.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club, which features a par-71, 2,978-yard layout. Live scoring is available throughout the event at www.GolfStat.com
