McGowan Tied for Second at Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate

Junior Michael McGowan found his stroke and is currently tied for second place at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The University of North Carolina men's golf team is in sixth place, shooting a two-over 290, after the first round of play.
McGowan, a Southern Pines, N.C. native, shot a two-under par 70--his lowest first round of the spring season. Patrick Barrett, a senior out of Pinehurst, N.C., shot an even par in the first round after suffering a bogey on the last hole, placing him in a tie for 18th. Freshman Bailey Patrick, of Charlotte, N.C., is tied for 25th at one-over after an up-and-down day of three birdies and four bogeys. Zach Munroe and Brandon Dalinka are tied at 49th, both at a three-over 75.
Kentucky and No. 5 Auburn lead the way, both tied at first with team scores at three-under 285. LSU is one stroke behind at two-under, followed by Virginia at one-under. Texas A&M is in fifth, shooting a one-over, 289.
Ji Soo Park, of Virginia, stands alone in first place by shooting a three-under par 69. Eight players are tied for second at two-under, including Lee Bedford of Wake Forest, Niclas Carlsson of Auburn, Smylie Kaufman of LSU, Ben Kohles of Virginia and McGowan of UNC. Cameron Peck of Texas A&M, David Snyder of Kentucky and Sang Yi of LSU join them in second place.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will continue at Bulls Bay Golf Club, which features a par 72, 7,363-yard design. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
