Tar Heel Golfers Tie For Fourth At River Landing

WALLACE, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team tied for fourth at the River Landing Intercollegiate after concluding the second round with a 4-under-par 284 followed by a 3-under 285 in the final round for a 9-under 855 total. After playing 27 holes on Friday, teams concluded the second round Saturday morning followed by the final 18 holes in the afternoon. The Tar Heels were led by Michael McGowan who finished tied for fifth in the individual race.
Junior McGowan led all individuals following the second round after firing a 4-under 68. The Southern Pines, N.C. native fired an even par 72 in the final round for a 5-under 211 total to finish tied for fifth place. Brandon Dalinka, a freshman from Newtown, Pa., posted rounds of 73-69 for a 3-under 213 total to tie for eighth place. Redshirt junior Patrick Barrett, from Pinehurst, N.C., finished at even par 216 after firing a pair of 1-under 71s to tie for 19th place. Freshman Zack Munroe, from Charlotte, N.C., finished at 5-over 221 with rounds of 74-72 and tied for 38th while Bailey Patrick, also a freshman from Charlotte, carded a 228 total to tie for 60th after posting rounds of 76-79. Two Tar Heels also competed as individuals as junior Clark Palmer tied for 28th place and senior Matt Raudenbush tied for 53rd. Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., fired a 2-over 218 total after rounds of 70-76 while Raudenbush, from Pine Valley, N.J., carded a 225 with rounds of 73-80.
Liberty captured the team championship over the 12-team field with a blistering 18-under-par 846 total with rounds of 285-278. NC State and Duke tied for second place at 9-under 855 while Carolina and East Carolina tied for fourth place at 5-under 859. South Carolina finished in sixth place at 5-over 869 and Virginia Tech finished seventh at 6-over 870.
Brinson Paolina of Duke captured the individual title with an 8-under-par 208 total after firing a 3-under 69 and a 6-under 66 in the final two rounds. Niklas Lindstrom of Liberty is the runner-up finishing one stroke back at 7-under 209 with closing rounds of 70-68. Robert Karlsson of Liberty and Jordan Sease of Winthrop tied for third place at 6-under 210 while Carolina's McGowan and NC State's Albin Choi tied for fifth place at 5-under 211. Zach Edmondson of East Carolina finished seventh at 4-under 212 while four players tied for eighth place at 3-under 213 - Carolina's Dalinka, Liberty's Chase Marinell, South Carolina's Caleb Sturgeon and East Carolina's Ryan Eibner.
The 54-hole event was played at River Landing's River Course which features a par 72, 6,904-yard layout. The Tar Heels return to action April 20-22 at the ACC Championships in New London, N.C.
