I'm A Tar Heel: Joey Sankey
March 19, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Tar Heel Fans,
On behalf of the men's lacrosse team and all student-athletes at Carolina, I want to thank the Tar Heel fans, donors, and faculty. Before coming to Chapel Hill, I was told by everyone associated with UNC that this was a special place. After four years here, I am now the one telling others how truly special is it to be a Tar Heel. It is the people that make the Carolina Experience so extraordinary. We are so proud and humbled every game to put on that Carolina Blue and represent this university in front of the best fan base in college sports.
My four years at Carolina have been the best years of my life. When I reflect on my experience at UNC, I think of the people that have have surrounded me. I have had the greatest teammates, coaches, and support staff that every student-athlete wishes for. We have won some nail-biting games, and we have experienced heartbreaking losses. The one constant is the support that we receive from the Tar Heel family. It is easy to give your best effort and play your hardest when you believe in what you are playing for. UNC student-athletes play for each other, our coaches, our fans, and most importantly we play to represent the University of North Carolina.
Being part of Carolina is being part of a family. It means giving a friendly nod to a stranger sporting Carolina gear. Being a Tar Heel means striving for excellence in everything that you pursue in life. As student-athletes, we have the special opportunity to represent our university on the athletic field by playing with heart, class, and pride.
My experience at Carolina is something that I will cherish for a lifetime. I have learned invaluable lessons and have become a better person by attending this school. There isn't a day that goes by that I am not thankful to go to UNC and have the honor to represent our school on the athletic field. I am proud to say I am a Tar Heel.
Please join me and my teammates on March 29 at Fetzer Field when we play Duke on national TV on ESPNU at 1 p.m. We would love your support. Go Heels! Beat Duke!
