Tar Heels Applaud Success at Scholar-Athlete Awards
Academic achievements take center stage at Scholar-Athlete Awards Luncheon
Moss, Seymore Honored at Chancellor's Awards
Benton Moss received the Jim Tatum Memorial Award and Sasha Seymore received the Chi Omega Award for Scholarship and Leadership
Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Academic Honors for Winter Sports
Eleven UNC student-athletes from fencing, swimming & diving, indoor track & field and wrestling were named to All-ACC Academic teams for the 2014-15 season. Those squads, based on academic and athletic achievement, were announced recently by the conference. To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must have earned at least a 3.0 GPA for the fall 2014 semester.
Honored were:
Swimming and Diving: Patrick Riess, Abby Fisher, Katie McKay, Emma Nunn
Track and Field: AJ Hicks, Brittany Hull, Tory Kemp, Cameron Overstreet, Xenia Rahn
Wrestling: Frank Abbondanza (for the fourth time in his career)
Also from winter sports:
As announced last month, 10 Tar Heel gymnasts were named to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team, the equivalent honor for that sport, and Marcus Paige was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's basketball
Paige, Seymore Inducted into Order of the Golden Fleece
Two members of the UNC men's basketball team were inducted into the honorary society this spring
ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship and Award Winners Honored
Gillian Litynski (women's fencing), Benton Moss (baseball), Cameron Overstreet (track) and Loren Shealy (field hockey) were announced as winners in February and honored on April 15.
CAROLINA OUTREACH
Tar Heels Team Up to Support Relay for Life
Sophomore swimmers Abby Fisher and Katie McKay rallied Tar Heel teams and staff to raise nearly $7,000 to fight cancer.
Carolina Soccer Programs Fight Hunger
The University of North Carolina men's and women's soccer teams recently teamed up with Stop Hunger Now to help fight worldwide hunger.
