Do Fires Final Round 70, Men's Golf 9th At Carpet Capital

The University of North Carolina men's golf team shot a 13-over-par 301 in the third and final round and finished ninth in the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate at the Farm Golf Club.

Auburn followed its even-par round on Saturday with a 1-under 287 today to win the event at a 4-over 868, nine shots clear of runner-up Clemson.

Georgia Tech's Jacob Joiner shot an even-par-72 on Sunday to win the individual title at -4, one stroke better than Clemson's Austin Langdale and Stephen Behr.

UNC junior Henry Do led the Tar Heels on Sunday with a 2-under-par 70. Sophomore Ben Griffin was UNC's low finisher in the tournament as he tied for 14^th at 5-over.

Junior Carter Jenkins tied for 27^th at +10, Do tied for 39^th at +12, freshman Joshua Martin was 50^th at +15 and freshman Preyer Fountain tied for 71^st at +25.

“This was not the start to the season we were looking for, but fortunately we tee it up again soon at Primland,” says UNC head coach Andrew Sapp. “We just need to learn from this, because it is a long season and you have to learn from both the good and the bad.”

The Tar Heels return to competition on September 28-29 at the Primland Collegiate Invitational in Meadows of Dan, Va.
