Second Straight 69 Puts Register One Shot Out Of Lead

University of North Carolina sophomores William Register and Ben Griffin fired a pair of matching 3-under par 69s on Monday and the Tar Heel men's golf team stands two shots off the lead after the second round at the Puerto Rico Classic.
Register made a team-best four birdies, shot 69 for the second straight day and is tied for second at 138, one behind Alabama's Jonathan Hardee (67-70=137).
Griffin had three birdies and no bogeys and matched his season-low 69 and is tied for 14th at 2-under 142. Juniors Henry Do and Carter Jenkins are tied for 23rd at 143 after shooting 74 and 75, respectively. Freshman Joshua Martin shot 77 on Monday and is tied for 51st.
The Tar Heels followed their opening round 278 with a 1-under 287 today for a 36-hole total of 565. Alabama leads at 563. Clemson and Georgia are tied for second one shot ahead of the Tar Heels. Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma are tied for fifth at 569.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with a final 18 holes at the Wyndham Rio Mar Resort and Rio Mar Country Club's River Course.
Carolina junior Zach Martin shot a 2-over 73 in an individual event at the Rio Mar Resort's Ocean Course and is tied for sixth place with a two-day total of 143, seven shots off the lead.
