North Carolina (10-2) slips four places to No. 6 after dropping a 5-2 decision to then eighth-ranked Michigan last Saturday in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines vaulted to third in the rankings this week.
Carter defeated Michigan's 17th-ranked Ronit Yurovsky last weekend to improve her record to 27-2 in singles play this season. She has not dropped a set in all 15 of her victories in 2016.
Kay inches up to No. 27 in the singles rankings after a straight-set win over then 12th-ranked Brienne Minor of the Wolverines.
Freshman Jessie Aney falls to No. 84 after losing her first singles match in over a month on Saturday. She owns a 17-6 record in her first campaign in Chapel Hill.
Carter and Kay remain the top-ranked doubles team for a second-straight ranking period, while Aney and senior Kate Vialle are No. 31.
Carolina begins Atlantic Coast Conference season this Friday against No. 13 Miami at 5 p.m. from Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
