February 8, 2016 | Field Hockey, Academics
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five North Carolina student-athletes have been named to the 2015 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Field Hockey Team, announced Monday by the league. Tar Heels honored were seniors Casey Di Nardo, Nina Notman and Emily Wold, sophomore Sam Night and freshman Malin Evert.
Duke senior Lauren Blazing was named the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She and Wold were the only two team members honored for a fourth time. Di Nardo was among five players who were honored for the third time. Night, Notman and Evert earned the honor for the first time.
Seven players, including Notman and Wold, were named to the All All-ACC Academic Team after having earned All-America honors during the season.
Di Nardo, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., is majoring in media and journalism and will graduate from UNC this May. Evert, from Bad Schwartau, Germany, is a freshman and has not yet declared a major. Night, from Houston, Texas, is a public policy major who is a sophomore athletically and a junior academically. Notman, a psychology major, graduated from UNC in December. Wold, a senior communication studies major, completed her eligibility in the fall and is currently training with the U.S. National Team.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
