Field Hockey Crushes Cornell In Final Road Contest, 8-1
October 19, 2025 | Field Hockey
ITHACA, N.Y. – Eight goals from seven different sources powered North Carolina field hockey to an 8-1 victory over the hosts Cornell on windy Sunday afternoon at Marsha Dodson Field.
Â
The Tar Heels (14-1, 6-1 ACC) rolled to the win in their final true road contest of the season. The scoring outputs matches the team's highest of the season and is their eighth time eclipsing four goals in a game this season.
Â
Charly Bruder was the first to crack open the Cornell defense, rifling a shot into the back of the net in the first minute of the game off of Carolina's first corner. It capped off a big weekend for the junior forward, who racked up four goals and two assists in the Empire State.
Â
The second quarter was ruled by the Hecks and the Hak. Kara Heck, Ryleigh Heck, and Sanne Hak all scored in the period to push the Heels out to a 4-0 halftime lead. Both Heck goals came off rebounds while Hak executed a perfect penalty stroke for her fifth goal of the season.
Â
The offensive barrage continued on the other side of halftime. Isabel Boere sent a bouncing ball long that cut through the Big Red defense and found Reese Anetsberger who finished smartly with a backhand to the side net. Sneaking to the back post after the insert, Dani Mendez redirected a shot from Bruder to get in on the action herself.
Â
With the game well out of reach in the fourth quarter, Cornell's Ella Kaplan put one on the board for her team.
Â
Carolina responded with two more goals of their own. The Hecks popped up again to provide UNC's seventh of the day. Ryleigh made her patented run along the touchline through the Cornell defense and found Kara waiting to put it in.
Â
The cherry on top of the day for the Tar Heels came through the first career goal for Coco Courtright. One of the 17 corners Carolina took in the game, this time it was Courtright's turn to shoot and she took advantage to make it 8-1.
Â
UNC will make its way back to Karen Shelton Stadium with just one game on the schedule each of the next two weeks. Friday, Oct. 24 will see the Heels take on Richmond at 5 p.m. for Alumni Weekend. The following week it will be Duke coming to town for Senior Day on Oct. 31 at 6 p.m.
