Carolina Sweeps The Competition At The Elon Opener

ELON, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams took first place at the Elon Opener to start the 2016 season. The Carolina sweep was a boost of confidence for the Tar Heels heading into a more competitive meet in the Adidas XC Challenge in a couple weeks.
Junior Caroline Alcorta led the Tar Heels in the 4k race running 13:41. Sophomore Morgan Ilse finished second in 13:58. It was Blair Ramsey who took fifth overall and third in the Tar Heels' lineup. The freshman ran 14:21. Fellow freshman Mady Clahane wasn't far behind at 14:25 and took sixth. Erin Edmundson, another freshman for Carolina, rounded out the scoring five at 14:56 for ninth place. The women dominated the field and finished ahead of second place by 17 points.
On the men's side it was newcomer Nick Walker who led the Heels. Walker finished fourth overall and finished the 6k race in 19:01. Walker was followed by teammates Mark Myers (19:05) and Chris Madaffari (19:06). Freshman Jack Cawley finished 13th overall at 19:30 while Carl Geiger took 15th at 19:38.
Carolina will compete in the Adidas XC Challenge in a couple weeks. The teams will run the same course that is going to be run during the ACC Championships in Cary.
