SERIES HISTORY
The most frequently played rivalry in ACC women's basketball history rekindles for the 103rd time on Sunday. NC State owns a slight 53-49 edge in the all-time series. The Wolfpack won both meetings last season, snapping a four-year stranglehold where UNC ran off eight wins in a row.
LAST MEETING
Despite 30 points and 13 rebounds from freshman Stephanie Watts, North Carolina lost 80-66 to NC State on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016 at Carmichael Arena. Destinee Walker and Jamie Cherry added 13 points apiece. NC State was led by Miah Spencer's 25 points and 10 assists. Backcourt mate Dominique Wilson had 19 points and Jennifer Mathurin notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
The Tar Heels made a season-high 12 three-pointers, two shy of the program record, but a 34-3 Wolfpack run that bridged halftime was too much for Carolina to overcome in the annual Play 4 Kay game to help promote awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
LAST TIME OUT
A 31-point third quarter from No. 17 Miami was the difference in the Hurricanes winning 100-88 over North Carolina on Thursday night from Watsco Center. The trio of Paris Kea (26), Destinee Walker (23) and Jamie Cherry (22) scored 71 of North Carolina's 88 points on the night. Jessica Thomas had 24 points for Miami (15-5, 3-5 ACC). Laura Cornelius had 19 points, while both Shaneese Bailey and Keyanna Harris had 17.
Tied 44-44 at halftime, Miami made eight of its first 11 shots of the third quarter as Miami outscored Carolina 31-17 in the period, the most allowed by Carolina all season, and led 75-61 going to the fourth.
