Tar Heels Finish Ninth In Final Maverik Media Poll
June 1, 2017 | Men's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Head coach Joe Breschi's 2017 University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team finished ninth in the final Maverik media poll for this season. The poll is conducted amongst 28 national media who cover lacrosse and is coordinated with Inside Lacrosse Magazine.
Unlike the USILA coaches poll, whose last ranking of the campaign comes at the end of the regular season, the Maverik media poll is issued post season and accords the NCAA champion the top spot in the poll. UNC finished the 2016 campaign atop the Maverik media poll after beating Maryland 14-13 in overtime in last year's championship game.
UNC won the 2017 ACC Tournament championship with wins over Syracuse 16-15 in the semifinals and Notre Dame 14-10 in the championship game. The Tar Heels made the NCAA Tournament for the 11th straight year but fell at #5 Albany 15-12 in the first round of the tournament.
