McCool Nominated For Sportswoman Of The Year Award

CHAPEL HILL—University of North Carolina senior midfielder Marie McCool is one of 10 nominees for the 2017 Sportswoman of the Year Award, given by the Women's Sports Foundation. McCool is the only lacrosse player on the list of nominees. Click here to see the list of nominees and vote for McCool.

McCool was the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Midfielder of the Year, leading Carolina to the ACC regular season and tournament championships for the second consecutive year. She also was one of two current collegians and the youngest player on the 2017 United States National Team that won a pair of gold medals this summer at the World Cup in England and the World Games in Poland.

McCool also is the reigning ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's lacrosse. As a junior in 2017, she was one of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Award, the highest individual honor in lacrosse given to the national player of the year.

Finalists were selected based on athletic performances between Aug. 22, 2016 and July 31, 2017. The public and the Women's Sports Foundation's Awards Committee select the award winners. The winner in each category will be the athlete who receives the highest combined share of a public vote (50 percent of composite) and the Awards Committee vote (50 percent of composite). Voting runs from Aug. 16 – Aug. 27 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
