Tar Heels Set For ACC Tournament Meeting With UVA
November 1, 2018 | Field Hockey
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After a day of watching the action, North Carolina opens Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Tournament play Friday, taking on Virginia in a semifinal game at noon. As the top seed in the field, the Tar Heels (17-0) got a bye into the semifinals and were idle Thursday while the league's other six teams played on the Karen Shelton Stadium turf.
Virginia, the No. 5 seed, beat fourth-seeded Boston College 1-0 in the tournament's opening game Thursday to set up the meeting with UNC. Duke beat Syracuse to advance, and Wake Forest beat Louisville, so the Blue Devils and Demon Deacons will face off at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the other semifinal game.

It's the second meeting of the season for UNC and Virginia. The two faced off in Chapel Hill on Sept. 26, also in a noon start, in a matchup that was initially postponed by Hurricane Florence. Carolina won 3-0 behind two goals from senior Malin Evert and one more from sophomore Meredith Sholder.
Friday's winners meet Sunday at 1 p.m. for the ACC title. UNC is the defending champion, having won its 20th crown last season in Louisville. The Tar Heels and Cavaliers also faced off in the semifinals last season, with UNC winning 4-0. In that game the seedings were reversed, with UVa the top seed in the field and the Tar Heels seeded fifth.
Tickets are $5 per day or $10 for the whole session. College students from all of the participating schools are free.
