GAME 12 NOTEBOOK
• Carolina plays its final game of calendar year 2018 when it plays host to Davidson on
December 29 at Noon in the Smith Center. The Tar Heels are 23-11 in 2018, including 15-8 last season and 8-3 to begin the 2018-19 schedule.
• This is Carolina's fourth game in 31 days after opening the season playing eight times in 23 days.
• Carolina's 66 wins against Davidson are the most by the Tar Heels against any non-ACC opponent. Most of those 66 wins came when both schools were members of the Southern Conference.
• The Tar Heels are 410-71 all-time in the Smith Center, including 203-16 against non-conference opponents (Davidson had one of those 16 non-conference wins in 2001-02).
• Luke Maye and Florida State's Terance Mann are the only active ACC players with 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds. Maye has scored 1,016 points (eighth most among active ACC players) and has 672 rebounds (most among active ACC players).
• Last Saturday in Chicago, Kentucky scored 23 points off 18 Tar Heel turnovers, the fourth time in 11 games this season the opponents scored 20 or more points off turnovers. That happened five times in 37 games a season ago.
• Cameron Johnson led UNC with 17 points against Kentucky. That was the third consecutive game Johnson was the Tar Heels' top scorer and the sixth time he has led the team in the first 11 games. He did that three times last season (twice against Clemson and at Duke).
• Kenny Williams is averaging 4.8 assists, fourth best in the ACC, and twice as many as any of his previous seasons as a Tar Heel. He averaged 1.6 per game in his first three seasons. As a sophomore, when he started 22 of 26 games, he averaged 2.2 per game. Last season, he averaged 2.4 in 38 games.
• Williams led UNC with five assists (and only one turnover) against Kentucky. It was the sixth time this season he led UNC in assists (he did that four times in his first three seasons).

UNC-DAVIDSON SERIES
• Carolina leads the series, 66-11, including 8-0 under head coach Roy Williams.
• UNC has out-rebounded Davidson by 113 in the last eight games.
• The teams played 67 times from 1911 to 1969, then did not play again until 11/20/2001, when Davidson won, 58-54, in Chapel Hill.
• The Tar Heels have won nine in a row since Davidson's victory on 11/20/2001.
• The 66 wins are the ninth most by Carolina against any opponent and the most against an opponent outside the ACC.

DEC. 1, 2017, CHARLOTTE
• Joel Berry II scored a game-high 27 points and had four assists and only one turnover and Luke Maye scored 24 points and had a then-career-high 17 rebounds.
• Carolina grabbed 54 rebounds, had a rebound margin of 31 and scored 25 second-chance points.
• Sophomore Brandon Robinson scored a career-high eight points, all in the first half.

MISCELLANEOUS TEAM NOTES
• The Tar Heels are fourth in the country in scoring (92.3 ppg), rebounds (44.1/game) and rebound margin (+11.8) and sixth in assists (19.1/game).
• Kentucky out-rebounded the Tar Heels, 44-33. That was the first time this season UNC was out-rebounded. The Wildcats are No. 2 in the nation in rebound margin.
• Carolina has finished in the top in the nation in rebound margin in nine of Roy Williams' first 15 seasons at UNC, including No. 1 in the country in 2008, 2012 and 2017. The Tar Heels have finished ninth, ninth, first and third in the nation in the last four years.
• Carolina is second in the ACC and fourth in the nation in rebounds per game (44.1) despite having only one of the top 15 individual rebounders in the ACC (Luke Maye is first at 9.7 per game and Garrison Brooks is 18th at 6.2 per game).
• Carolina leads the ACC in scoring, rebound margin and assists, is second in rebounds per game and offensive rebounding, fourth in three-point percentage and fifth in field goal percentage and three-pointers made.
• Carolina is the only team ranked in KenPom's top 17 that has three losses. Villanova has lost four times and is 18th in KenPom's overall rankings.
• KenPom ranks the Tar Heels third in the nation behind Savannah State and FIU in shortest average length of offensive possessions (13.4 seconds) and fifth in tempo (possessions per game).
• Carolina has scored 100 or more four times (and 90 or more in seven games). This is the first time since the national championship season in 2008-09 the Tar Heels reached triple digits four times in the first 11 games.
• Carolina has led by double digits in 10 of the first 11 games, including in its losses to Texas and Michigan. Carolina's largest lead against Kentucky was three points at 15-12.
– UNC led Texas 17-4 less than 5:00 into the game before the Longhorns went on a 25-11 run over the next 10:00 to take the lead. Texas hit a three at the buzzer to take a 43-42 lead at the half.
– UNC led Michigan 21-11 with 12:37 to play in the first half. The Wolverines went on an 11-0 run to take the lead. UNC led 35-33 with less than a minute to play in the half before a 3FG with 0:02 to play gave UM a 39-35 advantage at the break.
• Led by Cameron Johnson (28) and Coby White (22), the Tar Heels are making 8.4 threes per game. UNC's single-season record is 8.3 in 2002-03, one of only two seasons in school history in which Carolina made at least 8.0 per game (8.2 in 2017-18).
• Johnson is 18th nationally and second in the ACC in three-point percentage (28 for 57, .491) and fifth in the league in threes per game (2.6).
• Carolina is averaging 17.5 second-chance points, almost double what the opponents are averaging (9.9).
• Sophomore forward Garrison Brooks has won defensive player of the game honors four times. No other Tar Heel has won more than one time. No player qualified for the award in three games.

AP POLL NOTES
• Carolina is ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press and coaches polls this week.
• Carolina is ranked this week in an AP poll for the 904th time, more than any other school in college basketball history.
• This is the 88th consecutive AP poll the Tar Heels have been ranked, dating back to mid-conference play in the 2013-14 season.
• UNC began the year No. 8 in the preseason AP poll. It was the 13th time in 16 seasons under Roy Williams UNC was ranked in the preseason Top 10.
• This season is the 56th time in 71 seasons the Tar Heels have been ranked in the top 10 in at least one week of the poll.
• UNC finished the year in the AP poll top 10 in 10 of Williams' first 15 seasons.
• Carolina has finished in the top 10 37 times, including 26 of the last 38 years. UNC has finished the season ranked in the AP poll 50 times.

NUMBER ONE IN WINS PER SEASON
• This is the 109th season of Carolina Basketball. The Tar Heels have won 2,240 games, third most in NCAA history.
• Carolina has won an average of 20.7 games per season. UNC is the only school in the top 10 in all-time NCAA wins that has averaged at least 20 wins per season.

ROY WILLIAMS COURT
• On 8/23/18, Carolina officially dedicated the Tar Heels' home floor as Roy Williams Court at the Dean E. Smith Center.
• The dedication was part of a two-day Carolina Basketball reunion of more than 300 players, coaches, managers and staff.

WILLIAMS INKS EIGHT-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION
• Carolina announced on Dec. 20 that head coach Roy Williams has signed a contract extension through the 2027-28 season.
• Williams is in his 16th season as the head coach at his alma mater. He is the first coach to win three national championships at his alma mater (2005, 2009, 2017).
• Williams' previous contract ran through 2020.
