Tar Heels Host Virginia Tech Wednesday Night

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina welcomes Virginia Tech to Carmichael Arena for a rare Wednesday evening ACC tilt at 7 p.m. It's a critical game in the league with both teams entering the game with identical 4-6 conference records.
In conjunction with the game, UNC and The Carolina Black Caucus will host the third annual tribute to Black History Month. The honorees include Tresa Brown, the first women's basketball Kodak All-America and ACC Player of the Year, Howard Lee, the first African-American Mayor of Chapel Hill, Deborah Stroman, who served two seasons as a graduate assistant coach and has been a longtime faculty member on campus, and Edith Wiggins, the first African-American female Vice Chancellor at UNC.

Carolina holds an 18-5 edge over Virginia Tech. The series is split 2-2 over the last four years, with the Hokies winning 76-68 at home last January in the only meeting during the 2016-17 campaign.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite a game-high 31 points from Paris Kea, North Carolina lost 92-72 to Miami at home on Sunday. Kea's fourth 30-point effort of the season was an efficient outing, making 11-of-16 shots from the field and knocked down all five of her three-point attempts. She is the first player to score at least 30 points against Miami since Georgia Tech's Ty Marshall on Feb. 24, 2013. Janelle Bailey scored 14 points and Jamie Cherry had 12.
LAST MEETING WITH VIRGINIA TECH
Regan Magarity scored 24 points and No. 18 Virginia Tech remained unbeaten on the season after a 76-68 win over North Carolina on Jan. 3, 2017. Destinee Walker scored a team-high 22 points for North Carolina. Stephanie Watts added 18 points and 10 rebounds and Paris Kea had 10.
Virginia Tech continued its second best start to a season in program history by knocking off the Tar Heels for the first time in Blacksburg since 2010. Sidney Cook had 16 points and 13 boards, and Magarity grabbed 17 rebounds to go with her game-high 24 points for the Hokies.

• Paris Kea is 11 points shy of becoming the 4th player at UNC to score 1,000 points in first two seasons, would join an exclusive group that includes Ivory Latta, Marion Jones and Allisha Gray.
• Carolina has the top scoring trio of players in the ACC. All three rank among the top-13. Paris Kea is 3rd (19.8), Jaime Cherry is 9th (16.0) and Janelle Bailey is 13th (15.2).
• The Tar Heels overcame a 19-point deficit against Duke on Jan. 21 and trailed by 18 points against Colorado on Nov 12. UNC won both games in overtime.Â
