Tar Heels Head To Syracuse For A Pair This Weekend

• The fifth-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse team (9-3, 4-1 ACC) will play a pair of games in Syracuse, N.Y., this weekend, visiting 15th-ranked Syracuse (8-6, 0-4) on Saturday and playing a neutral site game against Canisius (7-6, 4-1 MAAC prior to its game on Saturday at Quinnipiac) on Sunday.
• The Tar Heels have won three games in a row and six of their last seven.
• Saturday's game will be streamed live by ACC Network Extra.
• The contest against the Orange is part of a lacrosse doubleheader at the Carrier Dome on Saturday. At 4 p.m., the Tar Heel men will play Syracuse.
• Sunday's game against Canisius will be played at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse.
• Next weekend, UNC will host its final home game of the regular season on Saturday April 21 against Duke.
• Carolina is ranked No. 5 this week in the IWLCA coaches poll and No. 5 in the Cascade media poll. the Tar Heels have been ranked fifth for each of the last four weeks.
• Syracuse is ranked No. 15 in the IWLCA poll and No. 16 in the media poll.
SERIES HISTORY VS. SYRACUSE
• Syracuse leads the all-time series with Carolina, 6-5, including 3-1 in games played in Syracuse.
• Last year, the Orange beat UNC in Chapel Hill in the regular season and the Tar Heels returned the favor in the ACC Tournament final two weeks later in Richmond (see more details below).

2017 ACC FINAL VS. THE ORANGE:
UNC 18, SYRACUSE 11 (April 30, 2017)
• The top-seeded University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team got a career day from Most Valuable Player Molly Hendrick and beat second-seeded Syracuse, 18-11, on April 30, 2017, in the ACC Tournament final at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
• Carolina closed the game on a 9-0 run over the final 15:40 and held Syracuse scoreless for the final 18:38 of the game. For the Tar Heels, it was their second consecutive ACC title and their third overall (2002, 2016, 2017).
• Hendrick tied her career high with seven goals (set in the 2017 regular season finale at Duke) and set a new career best with nine points.
• Carolina overcame a 4-0 deficit in the opening 12 minutes, then responded to a 5-0 Syracuse run early in the second half with its 9-0 run to seize the championship.
2017 REGULAR SEASON VS. THE ORANGE:
SYRACUSE 13, UNC 11 (April 15, 2017)
• Emily Hawryshuk scored four goals as the 11th-ranked Syracuse women's lacrosse team beat No. 2 North Carolina, 13-11, on April 15, 2017, at Fetzer Field. Carolina clawed back from two different four-goal, first-half deficits to tie the game at 7-7 shortly after halftime, but Syracuse went on a 6-1 run to retake control.
• Carolina got three second-half goals and three assists from Hendrick and two goals and two assists from Ela Hazar. Sammy Jo Tracy added two goals and one assist. Carly Reed, Sydney Holman, Marie McCool and Kara Klages each scored once.

• Carolina has won both of its previous two meetings against Canisius, including a 24-6 win in Chapel Hill in 2014 and a 16-8 neutral-site win in 2017 at the U.S. Lacrosse Complex in Sparks, Md.

UNC 16, CANISIUS 8 (March 5, 2017)
• Molly Hendrick tied her then-career highs with six goals and seven points as second-ranked North Carolina beat Canisius, 16-8, on a chilly March 5, 2017, at the US Lacrosse Complex in Sparks, Md.
• The win was number 300 in the career of Tar Heel head coach Jenny Levy, who became the third coach in NCAA Division I history to win 300 games (she is now one of five coaches to do so).
• In addition to Hendrick, Sydney Holman handed out four assists for Carolina. Carly Reed had 2 goals and an assist, Katie Hoeg had a goal and two assists and Marisa DiVietro had a goal and an assist. Sammy Jo Tracy scored twice and controlled six draws. Ela Hazar scored twice, and Charlotte Allard scored once.
