Duncan Sets Wind-Legal 100 Meters UNC Record At Virginia Grand Prix
April 28, 2018 | Track & Field
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of North Carolina's Brianna Duncan set the wind-legal 100-meter school record and Kenny Selmon once again clocked the nation's leading time in the 400-meter hurdles at the Virginia Grand Prix at Lannigan Field Saturday.
Duncan, a sophomore from Cambridge, Mass., ran 11.27 to break Marion Jones' 1994 wind-legal record of 11.40, win the race and set the Lannigan Field facility record. Duncan had already set the all-conditions mark (11.35) earlier this season at the Battle of the Blues in Durham, N.C., but a slight wind aid (2.1) kept her from setting the true legal mark in the event.Â
The time is fourth in the ACC, top 20 in the east region and top 30 in the NCAA this season.
"Brianna Duncan continues to improve," head coach Harlis Meaders said. "Fastest time all-conditions at UNC and one of the better times in the conference. She has proven herself to be a consistent performer now, she is an extremely talented kid and we are looking forward to her having an excellent championship part of the season."
With this time there can be no disputing of the fastest woman in UNC history. Duncan now owns wind-legal school record times in the 100m (11.27), outdoor 200m (23.13) and the 60m (7.29).
Duncan also won the 200 meters for the first time in her career Saturday, crossing the finish line in 23.25.
Selmon, a senior from Mableton, Ga., proved once again that he is the fastest in the country over the 400-meter hurdles. After clocking a nation-leading 49.00 two weeks ago at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, Selmon dropped that time to 48.98 Saturday to remain undefeated on the season. Not only is it the time fastest in the USA, it is also the sixth-fastest in the world this season.
"Kenny has had a fantastic season thus far," Meaders said. "And he finally won a RAMMY, so life is looking good for him right now. Hopefully we can keep that momentum going, push forward towards the ACC Championships and work our way back out to Eugene."
