February 15, 2019 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The North Carolina gymnastics team travels to NC State for an East Atlantic Gymnastics League matchup this Saturday. North Carolina (6-3, 3-1 EAGL) sits third in the EAGL and NC State (6-2, 3-0 EAGL) holds the top spot. The meet will begin at 3:45 p.m. at Valvano Arena in Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh on the campus of NC State.
"Our team has been working hard in preparation for this weekend," said North Carolina head coach Derek Galvin. "We are eager to compete."
Carolina enters the meet leading the EAGL on vault and floor. Junior Khazia Hislop leads the EAGL on both vault and floor to lead the Tar Heels to national rankings of No. 28 on vault and No. 21 on floor. Carolina also places one gymnast in the top five of each beam (Hislop, 3rd) and bars (Rylie Dewhurst, 4th). On floor, the Tar Heels place three of the top six gymnasts (Hislop, 1st; Mikayla Robinson, 5th; Lily Dean, 5th).
The Tar Heels seek revenge after falling to rival NC State on January 25 194.650-195.200 in Carmichael Arena. In that meet, Carolina opened the meet with two season high rotations on vault and bars. Although the Heels won vault, bars, and floor, a poor score on beam caused them to ultimately fall to NC State.

"The coaching staff and the team as well were very pleased with the team's performance," North Carolina head coach Derek Galvin said. "This was the first meet that we felt like we started to put all four events together… It was a good meet. I felt the energy level was pretty good. "We can de-stigmatize the use of resources to cope and handle the struggles we all face at times… We have the resources on our campus for our students and our student-athletes and we want to de-stigmatize the use of those resources and encourage people to use them."
