Carolina Soars Over Eagles, 93-78

CHAPEL HILL - Janelle Bailey scored a career-high 31 points and Paris Kea added 25 more to lead North Carolina to a 93-78 victory over Boston College on Thursday from Carmichael Arena. The win marked the 750th for head coach Sylvia Hatchell with the Tar Heels.Â

Bailey was 12-of-18 from the field and hauled in seven rebounds, while Kea was 10-for-17 from the floor and handed out eight assists. Taylor Koenen notched her eighth career double-double with 11 points and a career-best 15 rebounds, while Shayla Bennett tossed in 12.Â

Taylor Soule scored 21 points to lead Boston College (14-13, 3-11 Atlantic Coast Conference). Emma Guy had 15 points, while Makayla Dickens and Marnelle Garraud added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The 93 points are the most in an ACC game since a 96-81 defeat of Georgia Tech on Jan. 11, 2015.Â

Bailey scored seven points and Kea added six, including her 1,500th career point at UNC, as part of a 16-1 Tar Heel run in the first quarter. Bailey tallied 14 points in the period and Carolina led 31-15 over the Eagles.Â

The lead grew to 53-33 as Bailey scored 10 more in the second quarter. Her 24 first-half points paced the Heels to a 53-36 edge at halftime.

North Carolina (17-11, 8-6) maintained its dominance throughout the third quarter. BC crept within 13, 64-51, but Kea drilled a triple at the buzzer to send UNC up 74-57 going to the final period.Â

Boston College, the worst defensive team in the ACC, couldn't get enough stops to get back in the game. UNC shot 57.1 percent from the field.Â

Carolina hosts No. 9 NC State on Sunday at noon on ESPNU. The Tar Heels will honor Paris Kea before her final game at Carmichael Arena.Â
