Carolina Will Meet Duke Saturday For Trip To ACC Final

• Second-seeded North Carolina (13-3) will seek to advance to its fifth consecutive ACC Tournament final when it faces sixth-seeded Duke (10-7) in the ACC Championship semifinals on Saturday at noon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night but was postponed due to stormy weather.
• Carolina is seeking its fourth consecutive ACC championship and its fifth overall. The Tar Heels have reached the ACC final in eight of the last nine years.
• UNC advanced to the semifinal round with a 19-9 win over seventh-seeded Virginia Tech on Wednesday. Duke upset third-seeded Notre Dame, 14-13, on Wednesday.
• The Tar Heels are ranked No. 3 in the IWLCA poll and No. 3 in the Inside Lacrosse D1 Media poll this week.Â

• Carolina has an all-time record of 27-18 in ACC Tournament play and captured its third conference title in a row last year in Durham, N.C. The Tar Heels won their first ACC title in 2002 and also won titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

• Carolina scored seven consecutive goals midway through the game and beat 13th-ranked Duke, 19-5, in Durham last Saturday night. Â
• Jamie Ortega had six goals and two assists to lead the Tar Heels. Olivia Ferrucci added a career-best five goals, and Katie Hoeg had two goals and fie assists. Kara Klages and Ally Mastroianni each scored twice, and Gianna Bowe and Ida Farinholt both scored once. Emma Trenchard had her first career assist.
• The game was close in the early going before the Tar Heels took control midway through the first half. Ortega started the game on fire, tallying four goals and an assist before halftime to give Carolina a 9-3 lead at the break. UNC closed the first period on a 5-0 run, then scored the first two and seven of the first eight goals in the second half to seize control.
LAST TIME OUT
• Paced by tournament- and school-record performances by sophomore Jamie Ortega and junior Katie Hoeg, the Tar Heels pulled away from seventh-seeded Virginia Tech for a 19-9 win in ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship quarterfinal action on Wednesday in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
• Ortega set ACC Championship single-game records with eight goals and 12 points, and Hoeg's six assists set another single-game tournament mark.
