Carolina Finishes Day One of Regular-Season Closers
April 26, 2019 | Track & Field
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. / GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The North Carolina track and field team opened competition at the Virginia Grand Prix and Florida's Tom Jones Memorial on Friday with a few notable underclassmen performances.
Redshirt freshman Madison Wiltrout (Connellsville, Pa.) won her fifth event title in the women's javelin after throwing the second-best mark of her collegiate career in Virginia — 177-4 (54.07 meters). Wiltrout's performance comes just two weeks after she set the UNC school record and still beats the ACC's third-best women's javelin performance by 17 feet.
At Florida's Tom Jones Memorial, two Tar Heels finished the evening with season-best performances. Sophomore Anna Keefer (St. Michael Albertville, Minn.) hit a season-best mark of 20-1 1/2 (6.13 meters) in the women's long jump and freshman Dorriann Coleman (Southfield, Mich.) knocked nearly three seconds off her collegiate-best 800 time to cross the finish line in 2:15.00.
