Tar Heels Will Meet BC For ACC Title Sunday

• Second-seeded North Carolina (14-3) will seek its fourth consecutive ACC Tournament championship when it faces top-seeded and top-ranked Boston College (19-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
• Carolina is aiming for its fourth ACC championship in a row and its fifth overall. The Tar Heels have reached the ACC final in nine of the last 10 years, including five in a row.
• UNC advanced to Sunday's matchup with a 16-11 win over sixth-seeded Duke on Saturday. The Eagles came from behind to beat Syracuse on Friday in the semifinals.
• The Tar Heels are ranked No. 3 in the IWLCA poll and No. 3 in the Inside Lacrosse D1 Media poll this week. BC has topped both polls throughout the season.
• The ACC's Regional Sports Networks will televise the game live, and the ACC Network Extra will stream it live online.
CAROLINA'S ACC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Carolina has an all-time record of 28-18 in ACC Tournament play and captured its third conference title in a row last year in Durham, N.C. The Tar Heels won their first ACC title in 2002 and also won championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
• The Tar Heels have won 11 consecutive ACC Tournament games, last losing in the 2015 title game to Syracuse.
• UNC is 4-8 in ACC Tournament finals, winning in 2002 over Maryland, 2016 and 2017 over Syracuse and 2018 over Boston College.

EAGLES DOWN TAR HEELS, 14-8 (March 23, 2019)
• Carolina fell 14-8 to No. 1 Boston College on March 23 in Chapel Hill in a top-three battle at UNC Lacrosse Stadium. Sam Apuzzo led the Eagles with five goals, and Kenzie Kent had a goal and three assists.
• Sophomore Jamie Ortega had three goals and an assist to lead the third-ranked Tar Heels in the loss. UNC also got two goals from sophomore Taylor McDaniels and one each from Marisa DiVietro, Olivia Ferrucci and Gianna Bowe. Junior Katie Hoeg led UNC in assists with four.
2018 ACC TOURNAMENT FINAL:
CAROLINA WINS THIRD STRAIGHT ACC TITLE, 14-11 (Sunday, April 29, 2018)
• Second-seeded North Carolina (15-3) got six goals from freshman Jamie Ortega and an MVP performance from goalie Taylor Moreno to defeat top-seeded Boston College (19-1), 14-11, in the 2018 CC Tournament final at Koskinen Stadium on the Duke campus.
• Ortega had six goals and an assist on the day, setting an ACC Tournament record with 15 goals in UNC's three wins over the weekend (breaking the record set by UNC's Molly Hendrick in 2017).
• Moreno made 11 saves in goal and an ACC Tournament-record 33 overall to earn ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Marie McCool, Emma Trenchard and Katie Hoeg joined Ortega and Moreno on the all-tournament team.
• For the Tar Heels, it was their third consecutive ACC title and their fourth overall (2002, 2016, 2017, 2018).
ORTEGA SMASHING RECORDS
• Jamie Ortega broke the UNC program record for most points in a season with her 12-point performance in ACC Tournament quarterfinal win over Virginia Tech. Those 12 points are a UNC school record, and set an ACC Tournament single-game record as well.
• Ortega enters Sunday's ACC title game with 95 points in 2019. The previous school record was 89 points, set last year by Katie Hoeg. Ortega is on the verge of the first 100-point season in UNC history.
• Ortega also is on the brink of breaking the Carolina record for goals in a season. She enters Sunday with 70 goals. The school record is 72, set by Molly Hendrick in 2017.
HOEG BREAKS HER OWN SCHOOL RECORD FOR ASSISTS
• Junior attacker Kate Hoeg is one of the top playmakers in UNC history and already ranks second in Tar Heel history in assists as a junior.
• Hoeg has 119 career assists. Ela Hazar (2015-18) is Carolina's career assist leader with 121.
• Hoeg's 60 assists this year broke her own school record for most by a Tar Heel in a season (50, set last year) .
