Tar Heels Will Host Virginia For Trip To NCAA Final Four

• Third-seeded and four-time defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion North Carolina will try to earn its eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in the last 11 years when it hosts sixth-seeded Virginia on Saturday in Chapel Hill.
• The Tar Heels and Cavaliers will take the opening draw in the NCAA quarterfinals at noon on Saturday at UNC Lacrosse & Soccer Stadium.
• Carolina is coming off a 15-11 NCAA second-round win over Florida last Sunday and is riding a seven-game winning streak. Virginia beat Navy last weekend at home to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal.
• ESPN3 will stream Saturday's game live online. Matt Krause will have the call.
• Carolina is seeking its third NCAA title after winning the 2013 and 2016 championships.Â
CAROLINA'S NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• UNC is 33-18 all-time in NCAA Tournament games and is making its 21st NCAA appearance in 24 years as a varsity program (including its 15th in a row).
• The Tar Heels have made 10 NCAA semifinal appearances (1997, 1998, 2002, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018), including seven in the last 10 years.  UNC has reached the NCAA title game four times, winning twice (2013, 2016).

• Carolina head coach Jenny Levy played at Virginia from 1988-92, where she was a teammate of UVa head coach Julie Myers. Levy was a two-time first-team All-America attacker (then known as Jenny Slingluff). She was the Most Outstanding Attacker of the 1991 NCAA Tournament, leading the Cavs to their first-ever NCAA championship by scoring three goals in the title game.

CAROLINA OUTLASTS VIRGINIA, 13-12, TO OPEN ACC PLAY
• Third-ranked North Carolina scored two goals in the final seven minutes to overcome a one-goal deficit and beat sixth-ranked Virginia, 13-12, on March 9 at UNC Lacrosse Soccer Stadium. Â
• After Carolina led by two, 11-9, Virginia scored three consecutive goals in five minutes to take a 12-11 lead (its first since scoring the first goal of the game and leading, 1-0) with 10:14 left in the second half.Â
• The Tar Heels responded with a free position goal by Jamie Ortega, then an assist from Katie Hoeg that led to a Tayler Warehime goal with 5:35 remaining that proved to be the game-winner.
• Carolina's Taylor Moreno made two big saves in the closing minutes, rejecting a free position try with 2:32 to go by Maggie Jackson and a last-second shot from Avery Shoemaker as the closing horn sounded. Caroline Wakefield also caused an important turnover for UNC that led to a ground ball by Gianna Bowe in the final two minutes.
ORTEGA SMASHING RECORDS
• Jamie Ortega is on the midst of the first 100-point season in UNC history. She enters Saturday's game with a school-record 100 points in 2019. The previous school record was 89 points, set last year by Katie Hoeg (who has 96 points this season, just behind Ortega).Â
• Ortega also has broken the Carolina record for goals in a season. She enters Saturday's game with 73 goals. The previous school record was 72, set by Molly Hendrick in 2017.
• Ortega broke the UNC program record for most points in a season with her 12-point performance in the ACC Tournament win over Virginia Tech. Those 12 points are a UNC school record and set an ACC Tournament single-game record as well.Â
• Ortega's 19 points (13 goals and six assists) in winning ACC Tournament MVP honors set a new tournament record. Ortega broke the previous record of 17 set by Alex Aust of Maryland in 2012.
HOEG BREAKS UNC CAREER ASSIST RECORD
• Junior attacker Kate Hoeg is one of the top playmakers in school history and has broken the UNC career assist record in just her second year as a starter.
• Hoeg set the Carolina career record against Florida on May 12 and has 124 career assists. Ela Hazar (2015-18) held the previous record with 121.Â
• Hoeg's 65 assists this year eclipse her own previous school record for most by a Tar Heel in a season (50, set last year).
DYNAMIC DUO
• In 2018, Katie Hoeg (92 points) and Jamie Ortega (86) posted the two best scoring seasons in Carolina history. In 2019, Ortega and Hoeg have both surpassed last year's record-breaking efforts.
