Parros Returns To Carolina As Tar Heel Assistant Coach
October 13, 2020 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC graduate Emily Parros is returning to the Tar Heel women's lacrosse program as an assistant coach, head coach Jenny Levy announced Tuesday. Parros, an NCAA Champion at North Carolina, has spent the past four years as an assistant coach at East Carolina while continuing to play professionally and for the U.S. National Team.
"We are so excited to welcome our own Emily Garrity Parros back to Carolina," UNC head coach Jenny Levy said. "Emily is a champion in every way – she is a great human being who our players will love. She is a natural connector who is a selfless leader and a hard worker, and is passionate about the University of North Carolina and our women's lacrosse program."
Known as Emily Garrity during her UNC career, Parros started in the midfield for the Tar Heel from 2010-13, earning All-America, All-Atlantic Coast Conference and ACC All-Tournament honors. She was a two-time captain and was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List as a senior. An exercise and sport science major, she twice earned All-ACC Academic Team honors.
After graduating from UNC in 2013 she spent a year coaching and teaching on the high school level in Orlando, Fla., where she also coached club lacrosse. She then spent two seasons on the staff at James Madison before moving to ECU.
In addition to her coaching career, Parros continues to play for the U.S. National Team and in the United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) as a member of the Philadelphia Force.
She is married to another Tar Heel, Clayton Parros, who was a sprinter on the track & field team at UNC and is now the coach at Mount Olive University.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to return to UNC and help continue its legacy of excellence on and off the field," Parros said. "I am excited to leverage my experience as a coach, U.S. national player, and former Tar Heel to further contribute to the success of this program. I am thrilled to be back on campus, ready to build relationships, and begin working with the team and staff.
"What Jenny has built here from the ground up is nothing short of amazing. For years now she has been at the forefront of the growth and development of women's lacrosse both nationally and internationally. I am looking forward to learning from her and coaching alongside her."
"Emily attacks everything with a grit, fearlessness and competitive mentality which is hard to miss," Levy said. "It is not by accident that she has won championships in the college and professional level of women's lacrosse. As a current midfielder on Team USA, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and will connect with our players on multiple levels. Emily has been in their shoes, she understands our Carolina Culture and Standards and knows what it takes to be a champion, both individually and collectively. I know the players will learn so much from her on and off the field."
