CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – At long last, it's almost time to play.
After months of practice, the UNC women's basketball team now has an official 2020-21 schedule, which kicks off at home on Nov. 25 against Radford. The Tar Heels will open the season with five nonconference games at Carmichael Arena and then dive into a 20-game Atlantic Coast Conference schedule, as announced Wednesday morning by the league. All tipoff times and TV designations are still pending.
"It's obviously a different kind of year in so many ways, but the official schedule release signifies that it's almost game time," said UNC coach Courtney Banghart, who is heading into her second season in Chapel Hill. "This team has been so hard at work since July, fully committed to the preparation of reaching their lofty goals. They are eager to play together. I have loved coaching this group, and couldn't be prouder of the team that they are becoming. I'll will love watching them play soon."
After Radford, the Tar Heels will play home games against UNC Greensboro, High Point, South Carolina State and Charlotte, then it's on to the ACC.
UNC opens with back-to-back road games, at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Dec. 10 then to Louisville, Ky., to take on the Cardinals on Dec. 13. The Tar Heels then play two at home before the holiday break, hosting Syracuse on Dec. 17 and Wake Forest on Dec. 20. They'll close out 2020 with a Dec. 31 game at Syracuse.
In addition to Wake Forest and Syracuse, UNC will play home-and-home games against Duke, NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels play single road games against Louisville, Pitt, Miami and Clemson and single home games against Notre Dame, Boston College Georgia Tech and Florida State.
