Tar Heels Take Down Undefeated New Hampshire, 196.050-195.650

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina women's gymnastics team posted their highest score of the season to defeat an undefeated EAGL opponent in the University of New Hampshire. The Tar Heels were able to take the lead after the first rotation and maintain it throughout the meet to defeat UNH in the team's annual Pink Meet in Carmichael Arena, 196.050-195.650.
The Tar Heels opened the meet on vault, posting a season-best team score of 49.150. The Heels swept the podium on this event, with their seniors having stand-out performances. Seniors Khazia Hislop, MIkayla Robinson, and Alexis Allen earned first, second, and third place respectively on the event with scores of 9.900, 9.850, and 9.825. Sophomore Drew Aldridge was close behind, posting a season high 9.800 of her own.
Following the first rotation, the Tar Heels led by .250 as they moved on to the uneven bars. Despite their troubles on the event earlier this season, the team was able to post another season-best score as a team. Improving their previous season best by .325, and their score at NC State two days ago by .925, the Tar Heels earned a 48.875 on the event. Freshman Elizabeth Culton tied for first-place on the event with a personal-best 9.875, followed close behind by senior Grace Donaghy who claimed third with a season-high 9.825. Senior Mekyllah Williams also added a notable 9.775 to the team score.
Halfway through, North Carolina had increased their lead to .500 as they moved on to the balance beam. In the third rotation, the Tar Heels posted a consistent 48.850. Culton had the team-leading performance, earning a 9.825 to claim third place. Hislop was close behind, posting a 9.800, followed by sophomore Emery Summey and freshman Hannah Nam who each earned a score of 9.775. Heading into the final rotation, the Heels held a .375 point lead.
For the fourth time this season, the Heels broke 49.000, earning a total of 49.125 on floor exercise as a team. Hislop led the team, earning her second 9.900 of the season on the event to claim first place. Culton and Robinson were not far behind, finishing with 9.825 each to tie for third place for the Heels. Senior Jamie Antinori also added a season high 9.800 to the team score.
Freshman Elizabeth Culton was the only Tar Heel to compete in the all-around competition, but was able to take home first place with a personal best score of 39.275. Culton edged out two competitors from the University of New Hampshire, a senior and a freshman.
Next Up, the Tar Heels will travel to Durham, N.H. to compete against the Wildcats for the third time this season. The meet is set to take place Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
