BOWLING GREEN, OHIO (March 24, 2020) – North Carolina's Khazia Hislop was named a regular season second team All-American for the 2020 season, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced Tuesday.
Hislop, a senior from Concord, Massachusetts, finished the season with an NQS of 9.905 on vault. With an average score of 9.895 and a season-high of 9.925, Hislop was tied for 11th in the event in the national rankings before the season came to an abrupt end.
In 2020, Hislop scored no less than 9.850 in each of her 10 appearances on vault. She matched her career-best vault score of 9.925 on two occasions this season and scored at least 9.900 in eight of the Tar Heels' 10 meets, which included seven consecutive meets.
Hislop's consistency across each event helped her earn seven of nine possible Specialist of the Week honors from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League this season. She scored above 9.800 in 29 of her 30 total appearances across vault, balance beam and floor exercise.
This honor marks Hislop's third All-America accolade. In 2018 and 2019, the WCGA recognized Hislop as a second team All-American on floor exercise.
Student-athletes with the top eight National Qualifying Scores (NQS) for the regular season (with ties), for each event plus the all around earned All-America honors. Second team All America honors are earned by student-athletes ranked Nos. 9-16 (with ties) in the NQS. The NQS scores are based on meets that occurred before the season was ended because of COVID-19.
