UNC Heads To Blacksburg For Third Meeting WIth Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The North Carolina women's basketball team returns to familiar territory Sunday, traveling to take on Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum for the second time in a month.

UNC is 12-9 overall and 7-9 in Atlantic Coast Conference play coming off an 84-59 win over Georgia Tech Thursday evening at home.
Virginia Tech is 13-7 overall, 8-7 in the ACC after a 70-64 win at Clemson on Thursday.
The Tar Heels and Hokies are meeting for the 30th time in a series that dates back to the 1979-80 season. UNC leads 19-10 but the Hokies have won six of the past seven, including the last four in a row including two this season.
• UNC's last win in the series came during the 2018-19 season in Blacksburg, Va. Janelle Bailey had 21 points and 14 rebounds in that game and Stephanie Watts scored 17 points and hit three three-pointers.
• In this season's first meeting, the Hokies won 66-54 in Chapel Hill on Jan. 14, 2021. Freshman Deja Kelly scored 15 points to lead three Tar Heels in double figures. The Tar Heels equaled their season low with 54 points and were outrebounded for the first time in the season, 50-35.
For Virginia Tech, Elizabeth Kitley had 18 points (14 in the second half) and 14 rebounds. Cayla King came off the bench to hit five three-pointers.
• In the second meeting, the Hokies won 73-69 in Blacksburg on Jan. 31. The Tar Heels led by three heading into the fourth quarter but couldn't hold onto the advantage. UNC had four players in double figures, led by Petra Holešínská, who came off the bench for a team-high 21 points. (It was her third 20-point game in a row.) Senior center Janelle Bailey had 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds in 24 minutes as she was hampered by foul trouble. Virginia Tech center Elizabeth Kitley led the Hokies with 27 points and eight rebounds.
