CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina will face ranked team for the fourth time this season when the Tar Heels host No. 4 NC State Sunday at 2 p.m. at Carmichael Arena. It's UNC's second game in the past 10 days against a team ranked in the nation's top four.
The game will air live on ACC Network. Watch here, listen here and follow live stats here.
The Tar Heels and Wolfpack are meeting for the 112th time in a series that dates back to the 1974-75 season, Carolina's first as a varsity program under the umbrella of the UNC Department of Athletics. NC State leads the series 59-52 and has won eight of the past 11 meetings.
UNC vs. NC State
• The teams split last year's games, with each winning on its own home court.
• They also split in 2018-19, but the venues were reversed with each winning on the road.
• In the last meeting, in Raleigh on Jan. 26, 2020, NC State won 76-68. Center Elissa Cunane led the Wolfpack with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
• In the last meeting at Carmichael, on Jan. 6, 2020, UNC won 66-60 to hand the Wolfpack its first loss of the season. The Tar Heels were led in scoring by a trio of then-seniors, Shayla Bennett with 20 points, Taylor Koenen with 14 and Madinah Muhammad with 13.
Tar Heel Notes
• Janelle Bailey has been named as one of 10 finalists for the Lisa Leslie Award as the nation's top center. It's the third year in a row that the Tar Heel center has been on the top-10 list.
• Petra Holešínská's 21-point game at Virginia Tech marked her fourth 20-point game of the season, a team high, and her third in a row. Over the three-game span of Notre Dame, Louisville and Virginia Tech, all of which she came off the bench, she averaged 23.7 points and shot 53.1 percent from the field, 50 percent from three (14-28).
• Stephanie Watts is two points from reaching the 1,500-career-points mark. When she joins Janelle Bailey in passing that point, UNC will be one of two NCAA DI schools (Arkansas is the other) with two 1,500-point scorers on its current roster.
• With four three-pointers against Notre Dame, Stephanie Watts moved into second place on UNC's career list and currently has 257 in 100 games as a Tar Heel.
• UNC's five freshmen have accounted for 47.2 percent of the team's minutes played, 42.7 percent of the team's points, 43.6 percent of rebounds and 49.8 percent of assists.
• Stephanie Watts is one of two players in the ACC (Georgia Tech's Lorela Cubaj is the other) ranked in the league's top 25 in assists, steals, assist/turnover ratio and blocks.
