GREENSBORO – For the second consecutive week, North Carolina senior attacker Jamie Ortega and Syracuse graduate goalie Asa Goldstock have claimed ACC Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Ortega led all scorers with a season-high six goals to guide Carolina's 21-9 win over Boston College on Saturday. She spearheaded an 11-2 run with four goals in the second half, extending her streak of scoring at least one goal to 20 consecutive games and posting her 50th career multi-goal game. A native of Centereach, New York, Ortega scored her 200th career goal in the first half on UNC's second goal of the game.
Goldstock recorded 14 saves in a 15-6 win against No. 10 Duke on Saturday. Four of those saves came against Duke free-position attempts. A native of Niskayuna, New York, Goldstock and the Orange defense held the Blue Devils without a goal for a span of 28:13 in building a 10-1 lead.
All eight ACC women's lacrosse teams are ranked again this week in the IWLCA poll: North Carolina (1), Syracuse (2), Notre Dame (4), Virginia (8), Boston College (10), Duke (11), Virginia Tech (13) and Louisville (19).
